Blog Teaser

Join the Schusterman Library for a Documentary Film Series celebrating honorary months ranging from Women's History Month to Mental Health Month. All screenings will occur in the Schusterman Library Conference Room from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. We'll provide popcorn, but feel free to bring a lunch.

For July we'll screen 13th on Wednesday, July 19 from 12:00 to 2:00pm.

13th is "a documentary by director Ava DuVernay. The film explores the 'intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States;' it is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery (unless as punishment for a crime)" (description taken from Wikipedia)

We hope to see you for our final documentary screening of the summer!

Documentary Film Series

Mon, 05/22/2017 - 9:28am -- apeterson

Blog Teaser

Join the Schusterman Library and OU-Tulsa Student Affairs for a screening of the documentary Screaming Queens: The Riot at Compton's Cafeteria on Thursday, June 8 at 12:00pm in honor of Pride Month.

Lunch will be provided for registrants. Please RSVP at tiny.cc/pridemonthdoc.

Screaming Queens "introduces viewers to street queens, cops and activist civil rights ministers who recall the riot and paint a vivid portrait of the wild transgender scene in 1960s San Francisco. Integrating the riot's story into the broader fabric of American life, the documentary connects the event to urban renewal, anti-war activism, civil rights and sexual liberation. With enticing archival footage and period music, this unknown story is dramatically brought back to life" (description taken from Kanopy).

For the final film in our documentary series, join us on Wednesday, July 19 as we screen 13th.

Taken from a recent Poetry Lounge event, this program features 2004 National Slam Champions, performing their work and sharing their inspiration.
