Yearning for an epic summer adventure? Try escaping into one of these books detailing life in states, countries, and worlds different from our own.

  • Venture into the fantastical world of the Tearling in The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. This novel follows Princess Kelsea as she fights to reclaim her rightful throne. Bonus: This book is the first in a three-part series.
  • Or if you'd like to experience a battle set in this world, try Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer as Krakauer relates his struggle to climb and descend Mt. Everest.
  • Want more bang for your buck? Try The Purple Swamp Hen and Other Stories by Penelope Lively, which includes adventures of the Mediterranean, European, and house hunting varieties.
  • Looking for something more realistic? Try Strangers in Their Own Land, sociologist Arlie Russell Hochschild's tale of her time in the Louisiana Bayou Country.

All of these titles and more are located in our Leisure Reading Collection, which can be found on the first floor next to the coffee bar.
